HELP! Can't navigate cells in Excel

Jujube

Hello, until today, I could easily navigate between cells in Excel using NVDA, but now whenever I'm in a sheet, I can't arrow through cells anymore. I'm using office 365 desktop. I've tried enabling and disabling UIA in NVDA settings, and I even rolled back to NVDA 2021.3 from 2021.3.1. I even tried Narrator with no success. What is going on? Thanks for any help.

Could you have accidentally pressed the scroll lock key on your keyboard?  On a regular, full size keyboard, it is in between print screen and pause / break - the middle key above the insert, delete, page break keys (above delete).

It is a little like a sighted equivalent of the review cursor.  You press it, then use the arrows to scroll your document.  The document scrolls visually, but the focus does not move.  So you could scroll down a couple of pages, read a bit of information, and then type something back at the original location.

In fact, most sighted users don't use it, they just scroll the document normally, and as sounds similar to this case, get confused when they accidentally do press it and suddenly things work differently (or the arrows / navigation at least).

If that's what you've done, press the key again.

Otherwise, I can't think of anything.  Unless you are using any NVDA add-ons?  In which case, try NVDA+Q then down arrow to "restart with add-ons disabled" and press enter and see if that changes anything.

I'm using NVDA 2021.3.3

Windows 10 (64-bit) Version: 21H2 (2009), Build: 19044.1526

I was using Office 365 (64-bit) Version: 16.0.14827.20084

but after testing this, I just updated to: Office 365 (64-bit) Version: 16.0.14931.20118

and it still seems to work as expected here.

Kind regards

Quentin.

You're welcome!

And don't worry, it wasn't an "obvious" solution - I've just seen it before and the behaviour, combined with what you'd already tried not working all still fit that possibility.
