Locked Thunderbird thread unread question
Daniel McGee
Hi all
So I am currently adjusting myself to threaded conversations using Thunderbird and NVDA. Gradually, I am getting use to it. However I have just one quirk which I don't know how to over come. Basically, when going through a thread that I'm interested in, I have noticed that the: "unread" label isn't at the top of the collapsed conversation. However, if you expand the thread, and drill down into it, you eventually find the "unread" message in the conversation. So my question is, if a new message comes in to the thread, why doesn't the given programmes, Thunderbird or NVDA, apply the "unread" label at the top of the collapsed conversation? Thus Indicating to the user, they have extra messages in this thread. The best way to describe this is using the IOS mail app. I find that IOS and apple Mail does this very well. I hope this makes sense. Regards Please find my current configuration of version numbers and operating system below. Others who use conversation may want to comment. I don't use it but
I think what is happening is that either thread or unread is not
the first item in order of headers. Try moving one, then the other
to the top and see if that solves the problem.

Do you have the Mozilla Apps Enhancements add-on? You can use it to change the order in which headings are displayed. You can download and read about it here: https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/mozillaScripts.en.html Once you install it, you can open a dialog to change the order of headings with the command NVDA key h. You are in a list oof headers. Move to the one you want to move. You can tab to a move up and move down button. Press the button you want with the space bar as many times as you want, each press moving the item one level. Check to see where it is when you think it is where you want it. When finished, tab to the close button and press the space bar. Gene On 8/27/2022 7:40 AM, Daniel McGee

Daniel,
This is a difficult reply because it's both a thanks combined with a "this belongs elsewhere (Chat Subgroup)". The thanks, and it's a big one, is for providing the information that's vital for potential assistants to have in order to answer your question. I'm actually in the process of doing some testing myself with Thunderbird related to your question. That being said, this is a question about Thunderbird, not NVDA. NVDA can only present what any given program exposes to it for presentation. Any indicator like read-unread in the email client is handled by that client. I am asking you to subscribe to the Chat Subgroup, if you have not already. I will restart this topic, or you may reinitiate it yourself, there, which is where it actually belongs. You might also consider asking on the Windows Access with Screen Readers Group if you happen to be a member there, as all the various email clients have questions making the rounds there on a cycling basis. ----- NVDA Chat Subgroup Archive: https://nvda.groups.io/g/chat/topics NVDA Chat Subgroup Addresses To join: chat+subscribe@nvda.groups.io To post: chat@nvda.groups.io To unsubscribe: chat+unsubscribe@nvda.groups.io To receive a message containing the group description, and a list of these commands: chat+help@nvda.groups.io To stop receiving messages via email (you may still read messages on the Web): chat+nomail@nvda.groups.io This can also be used to put a vacation stop on group messages, then use one of the addresses below to resume delivery in the format of your choice.
