Duxbury braille translator and NVDA: any addon or anyone have successfully use this software fully with NVDA?

Betsy Grenevitch

Thank you so much. Maybe I can update in the next few months. I use Duxbury all of the time. Does this mean I can read files with NVDA then by listening to them? This is really exciting if that is the case.

Hi.
The option for UIA is only available in version 12.6 and above, not in
12.4. This is probably the reason why you're unable to use it.
Very best wishes,
Mo.

accessible for doing what you are trying to accomplish.
The software itself is accessible using NVDA; however it's the
reading of the braille and formatting that I found not to work.
This was with the current version of Duxbury Braille translator.

I have looked through my notes for NVDA and do not see anywhere how to get to the global menu. Could someone please tell me how to do this as I use Duxbury all of the time and just have not been able to read my work until I put it on the notetaker. It would be great to be able to read it with NVDA.

Hi!

Since DBT 12.5, they made major improvements to improve accessibility with NVDA (mostly because of supporting UI automation). Now I have DBT 12.6 purchased and used with NVDA.

Basically it works quite fine, especially comparing with previous versions. No chaotic cursor jumping, no problems with braille tables, as I can now use Braille Unicode for output, etc. I have no problems when reading, selecting and navigating text. I also succeed in reading codes, although it's still not possible to explore it with cursor (we can only move to the first character of the code). The status bar with information is also available.

The only problem I've encountered so far is following: when both print and braille documents are opened at the same time, the status bar shows incorrect cursor position, both line number and page number is shown wrong. The problem is solved when exiting a print document (after translation to braille, of course). I've reported it to Duxbury Systems, hopefully it will be fixed.

I cannot call myself a professional and advanced braille transcriber, but for now I like the way DBT works with NVDA, at least according to my use cases. If someone finds a feature that is not accessible in DBT 12.6 with NVDA, I will be interested to know about this.

Thanks,
Andrey

You should be able to use different braile codes/tables with Duxbury.

Never used with NVDA but used to run it with JAWS at an old job. There was some pretty heavy scripting going on there behind the scenes. Not sure who was responsible for that but I think they were themselves part of the Duxbury package.

I use duxbury with NVDA but am not able to read the files. I am very thankful to have a Braille notetaker to proof the files on. Duxbury would love for NVDA to have something to work with it but have said it has not happened yet.
