Assistance Needed - NVDA seems to be jumping around in documents
Marisane Moruthanyana
Good evening tech gurus
I am troubled by NVDA. These days when I use NVDA, I get annoyed by its behaviour. I don't know what is happening. The story is like this: When I read through a document, NVDA just start trembling. Surprisingly, when I am on page five of the document, the minute it start trembling I will find myself on many pages down the document. This is much worrisome when I type. What is happening? What setting needs to be configured to solve this problem? Is this an NVDA problem or windows? Please assist. My apologies if this is not clear due to my English language limited vocabulary. Please help me. Marisane |

Trembling?
Are you perhaps holding down a key too long causing rapid stutter speech as NVDA tries to keep up with your cursor movement? Do you have a key sticking? Are you perhaps unintentionally touching the trackpad on a laptop? |

Does this occur when any other screen reader, e.g., Narrator or JAWS, is in use?
The symptoms scream an intermittently stuck key, and it could be one of several different keys. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Memory is a crazy woman that hoards rags and throws away food. ~ Austin O'Malley |

No, I do not hold down the key for too long. That is why I am worried and confused as to what is happening. Most of the time, I connect the external keyboard when using a laptop. This issue happens even on a desktop PC and on many machines in the lab as long as NVDA IS running. It started with NVDA 2021, but it was not that much annoying. This is troubling me, more especially when I am typing. What setting to turn off? Your assistance is always appreciated in advance. Marisane On 9/27/22, Chris Smart <ve3rwj@...> wrote:

I don't think that is it, as he says its on several machines. I wonder if its a coincidence that it started with a certain version.

What document view is in use, ie are there any word settings that might change the behaviour. Also, do these machines have mice connected, Anywhere near certain points in the screen, I've seen things jump, merely from vibration of a mouse. I do think we need to know about Narrator though, as if that is doing similar things it has to be something installed on the machines. Perhaps something that steals focus at certain times. We would have no way to know that. Brian -- bglists@... This is definitely a situation where my gut tells me that NVDA has absolutely nothing to do with what's going on, but there is way too little information to venture any sort of precise guess as to what's wrong. I'm not even sure that "trembling" means jumping or rapid scrolling, but I did what I could with what I had. Not that this is the OP's fault, in any way, but when English as a Second Language (or, at times, even worse, machine translation only, on both sides) comes into the picture that introduces additional ambiguities that may, or may not, be resolvable. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H2, Build 19044 Memory is a crazy woman that hoards rags and throws away food. ~ Austin O'Malley |
