NVDA Sluggish and Sometimes Unresponsive - Suggested Fixes?
Marisane Moruthanyana
Good day guys
I trust you are all well. I am trying to cope. I humbly need your assistance. I have a unique challenge with nvda. It has become sluggish and unresponsive over the past few months. I have noticed this since I installed nvda v2022.2.1. I thought that after installing nvda2022.2.2, my problems will be minimised. I have not got any peace even up to today. It still goes on, it still acting sluggishly and unresponsively. What could be the problem? Please help. Marisane |

We don't know if this is a screen-reader problem or if your computer is slow, for some reason.

Do you know how to test with Narrator to see if it is slow as well? Gene On 12/28/2022 11:51 PM, Marisane Moruthanyana wrote:

There could be any number of potential reasons for this. You note (and it may be a typo) that you are using old versions (but recent old versions) of NVDA. My suggestion would be that you uninstall NVDA after having made yourself a portable copy, download the latest released version, which is 2022.3.3 or the latest release candidate, which is 2022.4.RC1, and then reinstall from scratch.
Using DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) and SFC (System File Checker) to Repair Windows 8, 10 & 11 to do a basic Windows cleanup would not hurt, either. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 22H2, Build 19045; Office 2016, Version 16.0.15726.20188, 32-bit "Be Yourself" is the worst advice you can give to some people. ~ Tom Masson |

I have noticed some erratic speeds when the software is used on a machine with a mechanical drive, slow processor or low ram. Often you can spot it at power up by how long it can take to be ready to use.

Also of course if its only recently been happening its worth going back and seeing what changes have been made to windows or software. Without more details its impossible to be specific. Suffice to say that if its a mechanical drive and not defragmenter some slow down will be inevitable as the newer office suite, or anything that operates over the web seem to need a lot more read writes than we were used to.
