NVDA and Wix.com back end

Marcia Yale

Is there anyone who has experience with working on websites made on the wix.com platform? I am looking for those who have worked with their administrative interface—it uses a lot of rich edit input fields that NVDA doesn’t seem to work with. Any help would be appreciated. I am using Windows 10 and Chrome currently, with the latest version of NVDA.

It is very much drag and drop and not at all accessible when I tried it.

That was several months ago but there has been no indication that I am aware of that they are paying any attention to accessibility.

I've not heard of this, but if this company wishes to exclude blind people either somebody needs to take them to court if they are in a juristiction where that is possible or vote with your feet and make sure they know the reason why they are losing trade.
I would have liked to think we were over the ignorance factor by now..

I agree, no web site should exclude anybody from using it.  I’ve never heard of that site myself.

In the U.S., where that is most common, it is still difficult to sue a business that is web-only. It has happened, but most lawyers won't touch those cases while there are still cases of brick-and-mortar businesses with inaccessible websites to go after.
The laws aren't written well for targeting online-only businesses.

I've heard that may be changing, but hasn't trickled down to actual people filing actual cases yet.

or vote with your feet and make sure they know the reason why they are losing trade.
I can't imagine that the tiny percentage of lost business will bother them much, given how little they have seemed to care about accessibility in the past.

I have had the misfortune to have to administer a site there, and beyond very basic administrative functions, doing any kind of page (re)design is simply out.
They ignore any comments to that effect.

The only saving grace is that I was able to hand that job on to some other poor sap to do within about a month of taking over that site.

That is very disconcerting--our web designer has started a dialogue and I
hope she gets farther than you did.

Well, at least I know that I’m not missing something. We’ll keep working on it!

There are other ways of creating web sites that work with NVDA.  A couple that I can think of are learning HTML or using a content management system such as Word Press.  We can talk about this more on the NVDA Chat group since those are off topic for this group.

This is going to be vary difficult until our Accessibiligy with the internet is updated.  This will not happen until the senate gets off their buts and passes hr9333.
