AnyDesk or TeamViewer, which is best with NVDA?

Brian Crabtree

There are lots of good suggestions being made about remote access software choices, but the question was about a person with limited tech skills accessing a machine running NVDA, so the most obvious choice is the one highlighted by farhan - use the FREE  Quick Assist app built in to Windows 10 & 11.

To find it on both machines, press the Windows key and type "quick", which should make the app show as the top hit in the search results. Press the Enter key to start the app on each machine.

Your boss needs to then click the "Help someone" button, which shows a 6 character code (your boss may need to sign in, but you don't). You enter the 6 character code your boss has been given, then press Enter to get it verified, then Enter again on a "Share screen" button, which connects the 2 machines.

At this point your boss can see your screen but cannot control your machine. If control is required, he or she can click the "Request control" button on their screen, which asks you to agree. Press Enter on the "Allow" button to provide control to the remote machine. You still have control of your machine and can end the session at any time, if you feel unhappy with what is being done.

Yeah, that’s what I don’t get. Do I need the machine I’m controlling to have anything such as rim installed on it? I saw a demo way way way back in 2004 so I’m remembering that one. The cool thing if I am reading you correctly is I can hear what ever the sighted person has on their computer with nvda in this case. If the sighted person does not need rim on their computer, how wil the 2 way remote be established? Or in this case, the 1 way remote.

Good afternoon,

I would suggest you take a look at R remote incident manager (RIM).

Do you have to install it on a Windows machine or use their Mac beta? The beauty of it is if you have NVDA installed on your side rim will allow you to take remote control of the machine that does not have anything on it at all and be able to provide rote remote support through NVDA, I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and it’s been pretty freaking solid. Even the beta is working pretty well. The only downside of the beta is we don’t have copy and paste yet so when I remote onto another machine, I’ll set up signal and create the note to self  by creating a conversation with my own cell phone. Then you can copy and paste things from one machine to another through signal.

Hi.

Try Jump Desk. You have to use NVDA object navigation to get around to some degree, but it is fast and simple. The audio is streamed and it sounds fairly good and is relatively responsive.

Of course, if you're just using NVDA you do know about the NVDA Remote add-on right?

If you and your sighted college use Windows 10 or 11, you both can use quick assist. It is a built- in remote assistat software and accessible with nvda.

Hi all.
Is possible use AnyDesk with the review cursor of NVDA in mode screen review. I recommend use the applications key or shift + f10 in the icon of the application in the system tray for connect.
TeamViewer is accesible with NVDA. however, some users in the Spanis community of NVDA reports that NVDA doesn't read in the last version but is possible fix the problem installing a previous version of TeamViewer, setting up and updating.

Use TeamViewer quick support on your end and she can use team viewer. QS is a portable app hence why I suggest it. And it is completely accessible as far as getting the code to your sighted person. If you share with teams or discord, you can share your screen and she can see the code right there. Hope that helps a bit.

I have not tried this personally, but people are telling me RIM Remote Incident Manager is the one, since it does not require nvda on the other end. I seldom remote in these days, so I'm a little out of touch. To do everything though, none of these are free.
