Reading by paragraph with text editors using NVDA

The command will move through text and begin reading after it sees a blank line.

Should JAWS add support for a function that isn't in the program?  That's an interesting question but whatever the case, that is the answer to your question.

Hi, everyone. I’m a longtime Jaws user and have just started working with NVDA as a backup, and I believe the product has a lot of potential. However, I’ve encountered an issue I’m hoping someone can help to clarify. When using Jaws and text editors like Notepad, You can use the Windows keystroke control up arrow and control down arrow to read by previous and next paragraph. However, when I try the same thing with NVDA 2022.4 and text editors like Notepad and Notepad++, NVDA only reads the paragraph you are on and not the previous or next one. I’ve tried maximizing the screen and ensuring word wrap is on, but the behavior persists. There is no issue when reading by character, word, line, or sentence.

The only app I’ve found where NVDA reliably reads by paragraph is a text reader called QRead. Is there a way to fix this behavior, or can anyone recommend a text editor that works well with NVDA? Ideally, I’m looking for one which saves your place when reading large documents.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Chad
