changing the input gesture for find

Che Martin <blindadrenaline@...>

Hey all,

So I changed the input gesture for find to control f, but now it is just doing the standard find on page dialogue, since I changed it to control F to mimic what Jaws does.

Apparently, Windows isn’t allowing NVDA to override the default control f functionality.

I am wanting control f to do exactly what NVDA control F is doing now.

David, the previous poster said they had made it work just like Jaws, so what is the trick here, what am I missing?

Thanks much for any help.

That is tremendous. Thank you so much for sharing this Luke. I just did those find command changes you mentioned in the input gestures and it works the same way with find as jaws does now.

Ok, so after restarting Edge, this is working perfectly.

Yay for customization!

Now if I could just customize a key to bring me a cup of hot tea, I’d be set.

Have a peaceful one,

Ché

Hi Che, What I did after changing the 3 find gestures \i deleted the 3 autimatic ones NVDA already had in. Lot would probably not recommend that, but there is an option if you want to reset those gestures bac to defaults you can. I just went to Microsoft.com and did a search like would do with jaws and it works the same. I know for more complex searches probably the NVDA control f has its places, but I'm just interested in general browser and word processor searches.

I'm not sure what you mean about more complex searches.  Your intention was to add a command, control f, to function exactly as the NVDA key control f command does and you evidently did.  If it does, then the complexity of the search doesn't matter.

I'm not sure what you're talking about Gene. When this topic came up in a post earlier it was shared there's reasons they added the NVDA key to the control f command.

Gene

I'm saying that you changed the command so the command you now use does exactly the same thing.  You are issuing the same command, using different keys.  Therefore, your discussion of more complex searches doesn't apply because you are using exactly the same search dialog now as you were when you used control NVDA key f.
