Footnotes and Endnotes in PDF documents

Hello Listers,
is there a way to read Footnotes and Endnotes in PDF documents with NVDA? I've got a document, that contains Footnotes. In all applications I tested (Edge, Chrome, FF, acrobat reader and Foxit) the anchor of a footnote appears like lnk 1 but if I click it, nothing happens. Any ideas? I just tested this and while it does read the anchor text then link then 1 (or the number of the current footnote), and you are right, it doesn't then act as a link, the next thing it reads is the contents of that footnote. Hi Quentin,
I just tested thisUnder which circumstances? - Which reader? - Which document? Public or not? - What do you know about the creation of the document? the next thing it reads is the contents of that footnote. I can't reproduce that in my document. Per Aspera Yeti |

Sorry, normally I'm the one asking those questions :) And they're all very valid questions I should have answered! I tested it, and then had to rush off so didn't get to write my response fully! Ok, I tested it by creating a document in Word with footnotes and exporting as PDF - this is about the most accessible way I've found to create PDF files. I'm using: Windows 11 (64-bit) Version: 22H2, Build: 22621.1105 Office 365 (64-bit) Version: 16.0.16026.20140 NVDA 2022.4 Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 version 2020.005.30436 PDF files are each very different depending on how they were created. And indeed how you open them. Testing the same file in Firefox version 109.0, it read similarly, with the footnote directly after the number, although not as smoothly. I have to say that when a PDF is remotely accessible at all, I'm pleased so the subtleties of such notes has passed me by really.

Are we saying that in effect, Though word makes a distinction between footnotes and end notes, PDFs just treat them all as footnotes, or do we actually know that the encoding is different and exposed to the API? All entries are displayed at the end of the respective document. #2 Firefox shows footnotes where they would appear in the printout. #3 Neither in FF nor in one of the explicit PDF readers exists a way to quickly switch back and forth between the footnote or endnote and its anchor with NVDA.
