OCR Add on for NVDA
Dave Grossoehme
Has there been an update for the Now OCR or any ocr program that has been updated to work with win 10 or win11. The latest update I see is back in January of 2022. Can anyone help here??

Can you be a bit more specific?
NVDA has used the built-in Windows 10/11 OCR capability natively for what's on screen for quite a while now, and it's documented in both the Commands Quick Reference and User Guide. I cannot find "Now OCR" anywhere that's official, and the two places I consider to be official are the Communite Add-Ons Site and the NVDA Add-Ons Directory. The latter lists a number of OCR options that are compatible with NVDA 2022.X. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 11 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 22H2, Build 22621; Office 2016, Version 16.0.15726.20188, 32-bit It is much easier to be critical than to be correct. ~ Benjamin Disraeli, 1804-1881 |

What is the version of Now OCR you are using? Mine is January of 2022. This is why I ask you for this information and if it can be used for win11 or win10 only?

The original message implies that it is and I've never heard of it. And if we're not talking NVDA Add-Ons, and it sounds like we're not, and NOW OCR is working under Windows 10, it's virtually certain to work under Windows 11, too. I still do not understand the question, and feel it has not been clearly stated.

It is an add-on, but is misspeled... The correct name is NAO OCR...
Tesseract OCR is also another OCR add-on for NVDA.

I'd also like to hear about an update for Now OCR add on. I also have a question about the OCR addons: When I use TasseractOCR, it runs my scanner and opens the result in notepad; a very quick and simple operation. To use NAO OCR, I have to use my HP software to get a picture, thehn use NAO to OCR it. The NAO method is slower and takes more keystrokes but usually is more accurate. Is anyone else having similar experience? Thanks.

I'm using both NAO and TesseractOCR with Windows 11 with the results described in my previous message.

You don't say which version of NVDA you are using.

There are two differences between the add-ons: 1 - NAO uses Windows OCR and TesseractOCR uses, as the name implies, Tesseract; 2 - If I remember correctly, NAO OCR makes some image treatement and Tesseract does not. So, the the OCR results may be different, depending of image quality, OCR language and so on... I tend to use the second of these as it can work on older machines running win 7 and the newer ones and if you use the outside windows one, you are in fact able to use it off line, I think I'm right in saying as its self contained.

The Nao addon works properly with nvda 2022.4, windows10 and windows11. We are not publishing other updates for the simple reason that the addon does exactly what it was made to do. Rest sure that we will make a new release to ensure compatibility with NVDA 2023.1, when first beta will appear. Best regards. Il 09/02/2023 18:11, Howard Traxler ha scritto:

How do you download the add-on? I haven't downloaded from Github
and when I downloaded the zip file, it wasn't built or whatever the
word is for something you can install as downloaded.

You don't have to answer where you found the link. I looked at the
link and I think the problem is that as Brian pointed out yesterday,
searching for something with OCR in the search doesn't find the
add-on on the site. I searched yesterday for something like NVDA
OCR add-on.
