audio latency with wireless headset

Ikrami <blindathlete6@...>

hi, i recently bought Microsoft modern wireless headset, it connects to the pc via either bluetooth or a wireless USB dongle. I can understand that bluetooth may have some lag when transmitting audio, but i still have noticeable lag when i connect the usb receiver as well. Could this problem be related to this particular headset and not nvda? Is there any setting that i can modify so that NVDA works better with the headset?
thanks and happy holidays.

It might be the headset. I'm using a corsair virtuoso xtr headset in usb
mode and have no lag as far as I can tell with nvda.

It can always, possibly, be the headset.

It's a useful test to see if the performance is any different using Bluetooth vs. USB.  And in the case of NVDA, if using Bluetooth, make sure to have one of the "cancel lag due to Bluetooth sleeping" mechanisms running so that this is not a part of the mix.

If it is USB, however, will that make a difference. I’ve not used bt on windows, I use wireless for some of my headsets, but never bt. I’m just curious as I really lack knowledge here. I know, shocking eh? Lol!

Sarah,

The communication protocol used absolutely could make a difference.  That doesn't mean it will make a difference.

You pretty much have to do trial and error with a given piece of hardware to make that determination.  Diagnostics of all sorts are pretty much a game of systematic trials and monitoring of the results of each.

Yep true, something I often forget. Hope the OP can solve their issue, knock on wood, so far I’ve not had any issues.

I think because any audio device plugged into USB will be seen as another sound device you are at the mercy of the design and drivers. It seems some headphones are laggy, whiile others not.
Bluetooth makes a difference on my phone, ie Apple phone, apple headset, no problem, third party Bluetooth speaker, one sees a lag, and suppose the lag is of little consequence to most users.

Hi all,

i think it's a hardware specific problem. I use several heatsets connected via USB and have never had a problem.

The only time I run into this is with cheep or out dated bluetooth products.

With all my namebrand products like bose, samsung and skullCandy never needed the work arounds needed..

strangely enough, i went for microsoft's own headset so that i can be sure of it's excellent compatibility, as it should be the standard for others, however, i turns out that this is not the case at all. I submitted a feedback through the feedback hub app, and i hope they look into this issue in a future firmware headset.
