Entering time values on youtube website

Hello everyone. Using NVDA 2020.2, and, in this case, Chrome, my favourite browser for a ccessing youtube as it is extremely responsive to the keyboard commands.

Recently I’ve come to use youtube more than usual, and have finally taken a good amount of time to figure out how the interface actually works, how to navigate channels and the player, etc. I’ve come across some recordings that are several hours long. A cool thing is that if I exit the site for whatever reason and then come back to it, even well after the browser session is closed, my place is usually “remembered” by youtube. However, I’d like to be able to specify the time at which to start playing in presentations that are sometimes 6+ hours long. I am pretty sure this can be done, but I’m having trouble figuring out where the cursor should be positioned to enter in the vlue. I have tried switching browse mode off and being in the position where the current elapsed time fo the recording is shown, but this doesn’t seem to do the trick. I believe I understand what the format should be (hours:minutes:seconds).

Any tips?

I doubt there is such a way. When you move through a file by time, you are using a slider and it has no provision for working as an edit field. I checked and I foumd no edit field on a page with a video playing.

Do you know how to use numbers 1 through 9 to jump through a file? On a file this long, the jumps will be very large but it may get you close enough to where you want to be often enough that it will help quite a bit if you know how. If not, the best way, if moving to the correct time is cumbersome, might be to download the file and use a player on your computer to set a time point for.

The controls are standard, a slider is a slider, an edit field is an edit field. You may find some way to do so, but I looked at the page of a playing video, I paused it to hear the screen-reader well but that doesn't matter, and I found no way to do so..

A Google search discloses a way to do this.

This has nothing to do with working with the interface, however. It is a way to add a time to the link to the video. You would have to check the time shown in the slider, copy the address from the address bar, add the time as described in the article, then save it using Notepad for future reference. You would paste it into the browser's address bar and go to the address, just as you would any address.

Regarding the numbers 1 through 9, they move through a video by percents of the file. If a file is short, the percent moved is much smaller than if the file is larger. 1 or 2 percent of a six hour file is a much larger time than 1 or 2 percent of a ten minute file.

You can actually modify the URL with I think something like t=600 for 600 seconds. If you know what you are doing, you can modify that uRL to do a lot. You will have to consult our best friend zootle (I changed the name so as not to trigger anyone's homes) and find the exact codes.

Thank you Sarah. Definitely more than apparent under youtube’s hood. Also zootle made me chuckle. And I’m weird so I now had to check to see if that’s a website. Nope..ah well!

Glad the tip helped. You can do so much with that url. I even know someone who changed the format, time, speed I think. I'm not really sure what else.

Has anyone had any digital assistant triggered by having a screen-reader say its name? I don't recall seeing any messages on the lists I follow about this. And I have a friend with an Echo who, at times when we talk and say the name of the assistant has it try to do something or say she can't find something, but only when she says the name. We did an experiment and when I, on her speaker phone, say the name, there is no response.

I am pretty sure this can be done, but I’m having trouble figuring out where the cursor should be positioned to enter in the vlue. I have tried switching browse mode off and being in the position where the current elapsed time fo the recording is shown, but this doesn’t seem to do the trick. I believe I understand what the format should be (hours:minutes:seconds).

Any tips?

I have had my alexa speaker trigger when alexa is mentioned but I always have the microphone off when not using directly.

In fact when I am sure that I am not going to use my new dot, due to all the spying and stuff that is rumored, I actually unplug the echo dot from the wall.

I have a bad habbit of talking to myself, especially at night, and especially during my sleep.

I find it good to keep my echo unplugged.

My only gripe is that some payed skill content is not available in new zealand.

You can actually modify the URL with I think something like t=600 for 600 seconds. If you know what you are doing, you can modify that uRL to do a lot. You will have to consult our best friend zootle (I changed the name so as not to trigger anyone's homes) and find the exact codes.

But mentioned under what conditions? By a screen-reader? By a news broadcast, by something else? I heard about an advertising campaign where a commercial had a word that would cause a certain digital assistance to do something, but I don't recall what now. But I'm asking about screen-reader speech specifically. It may not be necessary to worry about that as a trigger. The speech may be different enough from human speech that assistants don't recognize it.

I have many a story where I can trigger my boyfriends assistant when I'm on the phone. He has also triggered mine. We also played with someone's ALady over twitch this way. There was a podcast and commercial where everyone's assistances were being triggered when someone said the magic phrase. My siri was triggered by my student over skype once, and my boyfriend triggered my pixel, siri, bixby, and mini, all while over the phone. I think his screen reader triggered google and bixby once, I think I was on the phone for that one.

Zootle, the Greatest Oracle of them all..Hail Zootle!

 

Incidentally I don’t have any of these devices you mentioned in your amusing anecdotes – my Android phone does not seem to respond to screen-reader voice when it’s in touch withZootle to assist with dictation, but periodically when I lose internet connection and the phone doesn’t realise it has no access, it still tries to understand dictation but becomes incredibly dumb, pickingup all sorts of sounds and trying to make sense of them and doing a really bad job.  It needs the power of its master Zootle in order to adopt semblence of intelligence…
