Making a donation to NVAccess/NVDA
Don H
I am in the USA and want to make a donation to NVDA. I see you can make the donation by a credit card. If I do that are there other fees when making a payment outside of the USA?

Not that would be paid by you. Any time there is a currency exchange the credit card companies do charge something for that service, but the rates that you get through any major credit card provider are lower than anywhere else just due to the volume of exchanges that occur for them daily. The recipient is the one who loses some small amount of the amount donated secondary to a currency exchange (unless there's been some sort of special deal put into place for non-profits, and I'm not aware of any).

OK so the first time I went to the donation page it gave me the debit or credit card option. I closed it to post this question and now when I go the donation page I get PayPal only. I don't have a PayPal account.

I don't know what web address you might be referring to when you say "donation page" but when I install the software I always get an option to donate and you can also go directly to the NVAccess Support Us Page where donation options are presented, and you can use credit card in either, and direct bank transfer via the Support Us page.

I see now if you use a credit card it still uses Paypal to make the transaction.

PayPal is the conduit that NVAccess, and many other entities, use to handle things. After you choose a donation level the page on PayPal gives you two buttons: Donate with PayPal and Donate Using a Credit/Debit Card. Non-Profits would not be using PayPal if their donors absolutely had to have a PayPal account, even though many donors will. If you choose the Credit/Debit card option you end up on the page, https://www.paypal.com/donate/guest, with a specific token having been assigned to the URL (that you don't touch) that allows a non-PayPal-account-holder to complete the transaction. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 22H2, Build 19045; Office 2016, Version 16.0.15726.20188, 32-bit "Be Yourself" is the worst advice you can give to some people. ~ Tom Masson |

By the way, all donations made to NVAccess through their donation apparatus are made in Australian Dollars, from what I can see. So anyone outside of Australia should do a currency exchange check in the web search engine of their choice to determine what that amount is in their local currency.
If you type the following into Google, DuckDuckGo, StartPage, etc., you will get how much $30 Australian is in U.S. Dollars: 30 AUD in USD. As of moments ago, $30 Australian is approximately $20.50 US. -- Brian - Virginia, USA - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 22H2, Build 19045; Office 2016, Version 16.0.15726.20188, 32-bit "Be Yourself" is the worst advice you can give to some people. ~ Tom Masson |

OK thanks for all your help in understanding the donation process. I did make a donation using my credit card VIA PayPal and with a $30 donation in Australian dollars it converted to $21.32 in US dollars.

Brian's Mail list account
I do have a paypal account and when I set up my monthly donation, it automatically told me the UKP amount, which does of course vary if you need to look.
