MS Word focus issues
A couple of days ago I started having issues in Word. If I switched to browse mode and moved by heading through a document, when I switched back to focus mode, the cursor is not where I navigated to although it is not where it was before I switched to browse either. I was not aware of having changed any of my focus tracking settings in NVDA, but I tried toggling various combinations of them but to no effect. I also tried restarting NVDA with Add-ons disabled, also with no success. I noticed that Microsoft 365 updated a couple of days ago, so I re-installed the previous version, but it also made no difference. Does anyone have any suggestions because I use this navigation all of the time, and not being able to do it is greatly hampering my productivity.
I am running NVDA 2020.4. Word is version 16.0.13901.20366 (this is the rolled-back version), and my Windows information is
Windows 10 Home Version 21H1
Installed on 4/30/2020
OS build 19043.962
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3740.0
Have you looked in Settings, Update & Security, Windows Update, View Update History to see what Windows Quality Updates (in particular) and/or Other Updates may have been applied to Windows over the last few days to a week?
Since 21H1 is not yet a general release, but in beta (AKA Insiders) state, this could be Windows related, too.
It is pretty much impossible for those who aren't using what I'll call "bleeding edge" versions of Windows to replicate issues such that they necessarily apply under the ecosystem you're using. If you are not already a member of the Windows 10 for Screen Reader Users Group, and specifically their Insiders subgroup, I'd encourage you to join both and ask on the Insiders subgroup, where someone may be able to attempt replication under the same environmental constraints that you have.
