locked New NVDA user who's looking for Eloquence

Maria Reyes

Hi I got a new computer and just installed NVDA! How do I get Eloquence?

Gerardo Corripio

AT Guys offers a combo Eloquence/Vocalizer, which is where I got mine. It works great!

Hi I got a new computer and just installed NVDA! How do I get Eloquence?

Easiest way is to go to atguys.com and buy either the sapi or addons for eloquence and vocaliser.

I would personally buy the sapi  and then forget about it but yeah thats basically it.

Install the launchers, activate them, then download your voices and go nuts.

And it's a very fair price for the bundle! It's about $70 or so. Good luck!

There is another version of Eloquence that we're not supposed to talk about... 😉😯

The SAPI version of Eloquence allows you to use the voices with other screen readers or with other third-party programs which offer speech output supporting SAPI 5. The benefit to Code Factory’s NVDA addon is that, as someone else already indicated, you get the Vocalizer voices in the same package although it only works using NVDA since it is a specific addon for that screen reader. I read a comment from another list member in an earlier thread that the true lower quality Vocalizer voices aren’t included and this may be correct. This personally never bothered me as I prefer the higher-quality Vocalizer voices. Overall, the addon works well and is very responsive although I think that the built-in Espeak voices are going to be the most responsive voices with NVDA.

Hi Maria,

Everyone has pretty much answered your question - actually although Code Factory was mentioned, the link wasn't given, you can find the page here: https://codefactoryglobal.com/app-store/voices-for-nvda/

The other thing I was going to add was if you are a new NVDA user and have come to us from Jaws - firstly welcome! - and secondly, you might find the guide to switching from Jaws to NVDA helpful: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda-community/wiki/SwitchingFromJawsToNVDA

Otherwise, if you encounter any other questions or issues in getting setup and running with NVDA, please do let us know.

Kind regards

Quentin.

I can neither confirm nor deny that. (grin) I emailed you off list though. Hopefully you got it.

Discussion of the illegal add-on is not allowed on the list, and I would suggest Chris, that also goes for chatter about emailing each other offlist about distributing it...

What I would say on-list though is that there are several very good reasons why you should consider NOT using the illegal add-on:

- It's not legal.  Nuance own the right to Eloquence and they can set the price for it.  They have decided to charge a per-license fee for it.  For those who purchase Jaws, part of the cost of Jaws goes towards that fee.  For those who use NVDA who would like Eloquence, you can purchase it through CodeFactory.  If you don't like the cost, then use OneCore or eSpeak-NG or find another cheap or free synth (and if you do, please let me know about it, so we can include it on the Extra Voices page: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/ExtraVoices )

- It's not supported and not stable. Even if you're willing to steal software, the fact the illegal add-on invariably causes stability and performance issues is a very compelling reason not to use it.

As noted in the first point, do please check out https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/wiki/ExtraVoices for a list of additional voices (both commercial and free) you might consider using with NVDA.  And if you do find something else which isn't listed on there, please do let us know so we can add it there and others can find it too.

Kind regards

Quentin.
