Numpad navigation not working in Firefox

Bob Cavanaugh

Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is something weird with the way Numpad Nav Mode
works with NVDA 2022.1.1 or what, but now Numpad navigation does not
work in Firefox. Actually take that back, it partially works. When in
browse mode, I can use Numpad 6 to move right, but not numpad 4 to
move back left, and the up and down arrows, (numpad 2 and numpad 8) do
not work. If I'm browsing history or elements list, they work fine,
but they don't work when browsing a webpage.

Sorry scratch that, NVDA 2022.2.1 is my correct version.

Have you restarted the PC since updating?  That's the first thing to try - we often see strange things like this which resolve themselves after the computer is restarted.

That was my first thought, so yes.

Yes when I just updated I had to close the email software as it would not read any content in the main pane, a restart and all is well.

My problem seems to have either evolved or be worse than originally
thought. I could have sworn Numpad navigation worked as expected when
I opened Notepad a little while ago, but when I opened a different
file, it wouldn't work. In Excel, the problem is slightly different,
as the arrows appear to move, but nothing is spoken.

You haven't accidentally hit "Scroll lock" have you?  With scroll lock enabled, when you press the arrow keys, the document scrolls visually, however the caret or focus does not move.  It's a bit like the review cursor for sighted people :)

If that's what you've got going on - press scroll lock again to disable it.

I just double checked, and I'm not even sure where scroll lock is on
my keyboard, I'll have to look at that. What I did discover though is
that in Firefox, I can use numpad 8 to move up arrow, but not numpad 2
to move down.
