NVDA Keeps cutting off on Acer desktop

Hi all,

I'm sure this has come up before, but have not had the problem till now.  I am using an aser desktop with an AMD prosseser.  I keep having a problem with NVDA just cutting off at random.  I thought this might be a problem with  Jaws, but this is not the case.  I looked in settings for disabling inhansed sound drivers, but can not find anything there.  I am running windows 11 22h2 with all updates installed.  Am I missing something or is this bug in NVDA.  This has happened twice while writing this message. Ault tabing away then comeing back to it seems to work.  I am using NVDA 2022.4.  If anyone has any idea on what might be happening, it would be great.  Thanks.

Does this happen in programs in general or only in one or certain specific ones?  When you say that alt tabbing away and returning seems to correct it, the problem may have nothing to do with speech.  It may be a problem with NVDA having a problem with certain programs.  When you alt tab away, do you hear speech when you are not in the program window you were in?

Geen,

I hear NVDA in what ever I am in for example, in thunderbird I am composing this message.  If I am reading a message in thunderbird, NVDA will cutoff however if I gget a notification, NVDA speaks.  I just experienced this while replying to this message.
I simplly just pressed ault Tab and cycled around back to the composed window.  This does not happenn however in any particular program.  I can be on my desktop when speech is cutoff while reading a notification.  The next notification however speaks with no problem.  HTH.  I am not sure how else to explane.

I don't know what the problem is.  Someone who knows more technically may discuss the question.

Hi,

Is it cutting out at the beginning or at the end of a phrase??

Use the oldstyle sound settings to see if you have enhancements turned on. The new Windows 11 interface is a bit confusing for these things.

Once you open sound settings, tab through to the end until you heer "open additional sound settings, link" or something similar. The wording may be off since I am using Windows in German.

Now, locate the "playback" tab and arrow through the audio devices. Find the one you want to check and go into its context menu with Shift+F10,. Go to "properties", and chech that any enhancements are turned off.

Repeat those steps for any sound card where the clipping occurs. Press OK once you're done.

This may be something similar to what we've been talking about in another thread.

Regards,

Nermin

Thanks.  I think I found what I've been looking for.  This Doesn't seem to be having an effect on NVDA though as it cut off on me while replying to this message.  It is really driving me crazy.  Any way we wwill see whaty happens.

This problem sounds very similar to the one I had a few weeks ago, where at seemingly random intervals, NVDA would cut off, while using an HP laptop, running Windows 10. In my case, the only thing that would temporarily straighten it out would be to restart the machine, though of course, it would eventually happen again. To make a long story short, the route of the problem was that I had a defective internal hard drive. Apparently, it was popping up a window telling me something to that effect, but I could not access it. Replacing the hard drive cured the problem, but it does make me wonder, in the issue with this particular user, if a window of some sort is coming up as he is typing, and the alt-tab gets him away from that window somehow. Hopefully though, just turning off the enhancements will sort out his issue.
