has there been any word on when the remote addon will be updated to work with the latest NVDA? When I updated to the latest NVDA that was the first thing I noticed.

It has already been updated for compatibility with NVDA 2023.1 and has been available via the NVDA Add-Ons Directory.  I think it may also now be a part of the NVDA Add-On Store, but I'm not certain of that.

I would fetch the very latest version of Add-On Updater: https://github.com/josephsl/addonUpdater/releases/download/23.04/addonUpdater-23.04.1.nvda-addon
then manually install it.  After installing it, point the source for Add-Ons to the Add-On store and see what it fetches.  If that doesn't work, then point the source to the NVDA Add-Ons Directory.  See my post, , for how that's done.

Hi,

Last time I checked, add-on store does not have 2.6.2 (latest release), but I'm willing to offer it via Add-on Updater's community add-ons website update source soon.

Cheers,

Joseph

Not that this is literally your job, and I know that we are in a transitional phase, but it's long past time that things get "tightened up" as far as NVDA Add-Ons being available on all three current sources once it's shown up on one.

Eventually, this should become a non-issue when the Add-On store takes over, but until then there needs to be some mechanism to propagate updated add-ons across the three most common sources when an updated version appears on one.

I'm growing really tired of the endless, and largely avoidable, spin cycle of, "Is a compatible version of {insert add on here} available yet," when it has been available on one of the three "usual sources" for some time but never makes it out to the others, for whatever reason.

I can't recall if you are still maintaining add-on updater, but is it possible that it could have an option added as far as the preferred source goes to poll all three, at least for the time being?

Hi,

for anyone having issues with NVDA Remote being incompatible cause they did not update their version, here is the direct link for NVDA Remote 2.6.2, the latest version as of Today, and which can also be gotten using the Spanish Community source with Addon-Updater installed:

https://nvda-addons.org/files/get.php?file=nvdaremote

Hi,

And via community add-ons website update source from Add-on Updater.

I was thinking the same. My browser has a bookmark for the old English page, I don't think it ever occurred to me to poll the pages for other languages, since its not been written in any official documentation that I have read.
Its the usual problem that happens when several entities do their own thing.

So why not an option to update from all the sources?
Obviously it would need to poll them all first than make a decision as to which has the latest if they all differ.

Hi,

I once thought about it (multiple sources at once), but with the advent of add-on store, this became unnecessary.

Yeah, as for me I'm sticking with the Spanish community as they have the unofficial add ons too which I love. They even have some of which I've never heard. I might get some other stuff to play with, plus updates happen within hours depending on the add on(s) there.

Then I certainly hope that the intent is to:
1. Populate the Add-On store with all possible speed.
2. Have both officially vetted and unofficial add-ons.

Until and unless both types of add-ons can be stored in a single repository, that repository will not be a success.  I'm much like Sarah in that I've favored the NVDA Add-Ons Directory over the Community Add-Ons Site for quite a while now.  They not only have more add-ons, but processing of updated ones occurs with much greater dispatch.  And at times such as we are in now, that's critically important.

To be perfectly frank, I doubt that the NVAccess Add-On store will ever become the one and only repository for all add-ons, worldwide.  As much as I'd love to see that, it's clear that various linguistic communities have created a lot of add-ons that are specific to their venues, which is entirely appropriate in my view.  Not everything has to be made for everyone to use, nice as that would be.

If these sorts of add-ons are not brought into the Add-On Store, and without the level of vetting required for "official approval," there's zero chance of the Add-On Store becoming the one, true NVDA Add-On repository.

At the moment we know we're not there, and probably won't be even near there for a while, which is why I asked about the possibility of having Add-On Updater be able to search "all repositories" that are listed.  I doubt that the two for Taiwan and China are going to cause conflicts with the others, and vice versa.  And if they do, then someone's got to figure out why, as any given add-on should have only one "identity" even if it were to be resident in multiple repositories, and the latest version would be determined by version number.

Hi,

speaking of add-on updater, and I really don't know how much work this would be, could the updater somehow fetch info on changes automatically whenever an add-on gets updates?

What I mean is a kind of "more info" or "view changes" button that would tell us the most important changes of a specific add-on?

Sure, you can always go to the respective website, but if we have such a cool, centralised tool already, it would be much easier to see changes in that same dialogue, since the updater checks installed versions against repositories anyway.

I often like to know what a particular update fixes before hitting the "update" button.

Nermin

Add me to the chorus of those who prefer the NVDA Add-ons Directory, over the Community Add-ons page.  Until I see changes with that page and the store, I’ll be sticking with the Spanish guys.  I very much appreciate the work they are doing, and the quickness with which they are doing it.

Hi,

At the moment anyone with a GitHub account can submit add-ons to add-on store if they have:

  • Add-on name and version
  • Download URL
  • Code repository address (typically github.com URL)
  • Publisher (typically the GitHub account)
  • Release/update channel (stable/beta/dev)
  • License type and URL, prefilled to use GPL 2

Submission form: https://github.com/nvaccess/addon-datastore/issues/new?assignees=nvaccess&labels=autoSubmissionFromIssue&template=registerAddon.yml&title=%5BSubmit+add-on%5D%3A+

NV Access is working on refining the submission and validation experiences, with add-on authors submitting new and updated add-ons. The biggest thing folks are talking about is migrating add-ons from old add-on files system to add-on store format. I expect add-ons found in Spanish add-ons catalog will show up in add-on store in the future.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi,

Perhaps not through Add-on Updater, but through NVDA itself in the future when the add-on store client comes to life.
