Removed the Tom Voice

Hello NVDA Users

I did remove the Tom Voice from NVDA 2023.1. When I start the computer David is the voice that is spoken.  Why does it ask me to install another voice?

What was the full name of the add-on?

All that I know it was the Tom voice that I removed. I do still hear the david voice from Microsoft Windows. It says that I now have one core voices.

If you look at the voice to be used in NVDA settings, what is it?  If NVDA can't find a voice that it is supposed to use, it will switch to the default voice.  However, it may be looking for the Tom voice every time you run it.  I've tried demos of different voices and I've never been asked to do anything if I switch the voice NVDA is set to use.  You may need to do that to.  Do you know how to use the select synthesizer dialog to change the voice NVDA uses when it runs?

Most likely this voice was being provided by an add-on, and it doesn't understand why you are still running the add-on, but don't have a voice installed.
Keep in mind, that Tom is a premium voice. So whatever add-on was providing it, is something that you likely paid for.

Go to your add-ons manager: NVDA+n, t, a, possibly have to press enter to open the add-ons manager.

Now, go up and down the list with your arrow keys, until you find the paid add-on that was providing the Tom voice. This will likely be either Acapela or Vocalizer.

Once you have found the add-on, press Alt+d, which will disable it.

Check whether there are any others it might be, and if so, do the same to them.

Then press Alt+c. You will be asked to restart NVDA, press enter.

That should solve your problem.
